Traveling from Sendai to Matsushima in Miyagi [観光]
I had my friend visited from Beijing China. On Friday September 13, he made a day-trip to Matsushima from the hotel in Sendai all by himself. As I was not able to go with him because of my work, I made a suggested plan and he did exactly the same and said that he enjoyed it very much. Because I assume there may be quite few visitors from overseas to Sendai area who are having desire to visit Matsushima but may not know how to do it from Sendai, I decided to share this suggestion by posting it to my web site.

Boat (cruise) has an on-line reservation form:

Regular cruise departing from Shiogama is what you need to make reservation.
According to this cruise company, you need to pay at their counter when you arrive (1F in the building) When you make on-line reservation, make some note in "Other requests (required)" saying that you need to have a free translation service for Chinese. Then they will make arrangement.
Hope this information helps if you decided to visit Matsushima and use boat.
But, and again, it is totally up to you and think about.

For the sightseeing, this is my suggestion.
Friday (tomorrow): Visit Matsushima (松島) for sightseeing by yourself.
Saturday: Let's go Onsen (温泉Hot-spring) with me by my car.
For Matsushima, my advice is to use a sightseeing boat from Shiogama (塩釜) to Matsushima (松島). Matsushima is very famous for the many many small islands so seeing them from boat is very good. After arriving at Matsushima, you can walk around the town with many other visitors also doing sightseeing so that you can feel being at nice sightseeing places.
1. Transportation from Sendai:
Use train by Senseki-Line (仙石線) from Sendai (仙台). Get off at Hon-Shiogama Station (本塩釜駅). You just walk about 5 - 10 minutes to Marine Gate Shiogama (マリンゲート塩釜) where they sell boat ticket. See the map attached (for which I will also fax to the hotel). Cost for basic route from Shiogama (塩釜) to Matsushima (松島) is 1,400JPY. They have a translation service for English and Chinese for free of charge but need to have advanced reservation. For this reservation, I can do it for you if you send me an e-mail or call me.

2. Moving around Matsushima:
Besides very good scenery from the boat, it will be interesting for walking around Matsushima town. There are some must-see places including 五大堂(Godaido), 瑞巌寺(Zuiganji Temple), 臥龍梅 (Garyu Plum Tree), and others. I will attach/fax a map with my handwriting for these places. You can also find many foods around tourist area. So find what you want to eat and have some for lunch. I believe there must be quite few places where Chinese language can be used I think.

3. Back to Sendai from Matsushima:
After you are done with Matsushima, you can use train from Matsushima back to Sendai. Train station is called Matsushima Kaigan Station (松島海岸駅). Just take a train to Sendai area and it can take you back to Sendai.
Hope this information helps you to decide what to do tomorrow. It is of course and perfectly okay for you to go hot-spring (温泉) tomorrow if you feel you like to do, and go Matsushima (松島) with me on Saturday.
On Saturday, I plan to arrive back to Sendai Station (仙台駅) from Tokyo 8:50am in the morning. How about meeting around the main ticket gate that you used for coming to XXXXXX today at 9am? Please let me know.
